1998 Red Roan mare AQHA registered name "Bee Super Sweet"
Sweetie is about 15 hands tall, easy to trailer: load, unload, haul.. She has done a lot of this. I used to take her to a different "horse" event every weekend, just to hang around and watch ( team roping, pleasure shows, driving events, jumping, and dressage; she has seen it all). We always road in the warm up pens and road around the show grounds. She was my only horse when I moved to Paso so we did a lot of things together. She has competed in local sortings and brandings, but mostly she has been my buddy and teacher.
I can carry things on her, bucket, slicker, paper, ect. I have ridden her a lot bareback with a halter. She is very independent. Cares nothing about other horses on trail. She is wonderful alone, and I have ridden her alone a lot. But she is not mean or marish with other horses either. She will ride in which ever position on the trail you want her. She is not competitive with other horses at all. I did go a on a trail ride with donkeys and mules and they didn't bother her either. She has also lived with goats, pigs, llamas, and other animals so she is not worried by strange critters. I have ridden her up very steep hills and through water, through deep mud, and on the road (in light traffic)
As far as clipping, I have only ever clipped her bridle path as I never showed her, but she doesn't mind that. She ties great, no pulling back or trouble, she will also ground tie. I have washed her lots and she is fine with that as well. She is really trustworthy, and at her very best on trail.
She is calm and not reactive to new things. When she does spook she doesn't take off she just jumps sideways, and stops to see if the scary thing was really scary. She is no plug but she also has no desire to be top horse.
She is very much a loner in the pasture and when riding in groups. She is "light" to ride, so If you put you heel into her side she moves over. But she is very calm and very easy to ride, and doesn't easily get "worked up".
Trail work and ranch work are where she is best. Unlike most trail horses, she isn't afraid to leave the group. She doesn't jig or run or act stupid on the trail, she is very very careful about her own safety and so you can trust her to keep her footing and find the easiest way down a mountain or through a stream.
She has always been barefoot, owned from a unstarted 2 year old by my mom and then by me her whole life she has been very well cared for. Is up to date on all vaccinations/worming. I trim her very four weeks, she has never needed boots for any terrain. She eats alfalfa/grass hay, and gets Safe Choice to eat with her supplements. She currently lives out on 35 acres with her weaned foal and my show horse. She has never been or needed blanketing,
she is very much a "natural horse" When I trim her I use an electric grinder and sit on stool under her. She is really well behaved.
She had her first foal last spring, it was easy to get her bred and easy to foal her out. She was a really good mother. She never gets over protective of her foal, and when I road her with the foal loose in pasture she didn't seem to care at all Needless to say weaning went really well.
She has been a super horse for me, really helped me learn a lot about riding and horsemanship in general. |
